PUTTIN ON THE RITZ ( Judith Evans Resin Jewelry Bowtie Bangle Bracelet ): Judith Evans designed this simply chic “Bowtie Bangle”. The base color is ivory accented with black bowties. (Fred Astaire would approve.) Made from her own phenol resin formula, this bangle looks like Vintage Bakelite and feels like satin. In some ways Evans is better than authentic Bakelite – the slightly larger inner dimension allows ladies with larger hands to wear these bangles and those with small wrists can simply add colorful spacers. And look at the price! You could never get vintage bowties at this price. Grab it fast – the black/ivory combination is rare. What a great gift! You will be so pleased.

Condition: Excellent.
Size: 5/8" wide, 2 5/8" inner dimension, 9/16" walls.

BLACK CHERRY BERRIES ( Vintage Bakelite Cherry Pin ): This “deliciously tempting” pin of Vintage Black Cherry Berries was part of “Style Fruits” when they began their reign. Sometime in the fall of 1935 the plastic jewelry industry underwent a transformation from streamlined deco to figural themes, a change from austerity to frivolity, from the seriously sedate to the unabashedly silly. This era lasted until the spirit of the world was dampened by World War II. Practically every fruit know to man was assembled in dangling, clattering splendor. No self-respecting 30’s woman would be caught dead without her Carmen Miranda cherry necklace or banana pin. These novelty themes lasted though the 40’s. Cherries seemed to claim the hearts of women and are still the most requested items. “Life is just a bowl of cherries” helped relieve the anxiety about the War at an affordable price. Eight black cherries hang from a black acorn top. I think the strings are replacements since they are not frayed and the glue on the back indicates that new strings were attached. There is a safety clasp closure on the back. Black Vintage Bakelite resists testing, but the look and sound of this brooch says “Bakelite”. The black color is a nice change from all the red cherries and provides a sophistication to the wearer. These cherries look snappy on green, red, creamed corn or a as a subtle addition to the current black-on-black accessory style. Wear them with pride – Vintage Bakelite has never gone out of style.

Condition: Excellent.
Size: 4” long, 2” wide. Cherries are 3/4” in diameter.

HARD TO PART WITH ( Vintage Bakelite Karen Karonimus Dot Bangle Bracelet ): I have had this rare colored Bakelite bangle in my personal collection for years. Now I am sharing it with you. This 7 dot design was made by Karen Karonimus, who uses only Vintage Bakelite to make very special pieces. I just love the colors so much and they happen to be perfect right now with fashion’s fascination with gray. This thick, rounded edge bracelet is a marbleized granite gray color (reminds me of smoke) inlayed with marbleized light salmon coral polka dots. It is so striking that I could keep it forever, but I only have two hands. It looks so dramatic with black. A whole new range of color combinations presents itself. Karen had quickly gained a reputation for her fine workmanship and novel designs. The inside is marked with the Karonimus hallmark – back to back “K’s”. I hope that one of you will love it too. Live on the edge of fashion sophistication.

Condition: Excellent. No scratches.
Size: 1 1/2” high, 3/8” deep, 2 5/8” inner opening. (Larger hands, this is for you!)

NEW YORK, PARIS WHISPERS YOUR NAME ( Lucite & Rhinestone Jewelry Bangle Bracelet ): Understated chic - fabulous and fun, this Black Lucite Bangle is imbedded with Swarovski crystal stones shaped as letters. The message here is "NEW YORK" spelled out in crystals. Each letter is one solid stone. As seen in fashion magazines, signed "Rafia et Bossa - PARIS", these stylish bangles use the names of famous cities as a focal point. I wear "TOKYO" and "PARIS" all the time. Each bangle bears the designer’s gold hallmark. A very cosmopolitan, yet playful, look.

Condition: Excellent.
Size: 3/4" wide, 3/8" wall thickness, 2 5/8" inner opening.

THE JUNGLE CALLS – ISADORA! ( Vintage French Bakelite Jewelry “Isadora” Necklace ): This Vintage French Bakelite “Isadora” necklace is a truly exceptional piece to add to any collection. (c.1980) The theme of this necklace is a spotted leopard and exotic tropical foliage. Made of French Bakelite (milk based formula), the colors are soft shades of apricot and peach. The leopard and tropical foliage are hand painted with black dots. The beads in the necklace are ivory colored cylinders, faceted black French jet and I believe that the peachy-brown beads are ceramic. The necklace fastens with a large spring ring and jump ring clasp. The back of the leopard is hot stamped “ISADORA PARIS” & “Modele Depose Patent”. Her trademark of twin Art Deco ladies is at the center. The black perfume cylinder unscrews and contains a glass vial of the French perfume “Isadora”. It is still about 1/2 full. The perfume was named after the famous American barefoot modern dancer, Isadora Duncan. This necklace – typical of Isadora pieces – uses big, bold elements to enhance her necklace designs. The lady herself remains elusive. I have heard from some shoppers who visited her store in Paris back in the 80’s. Even then her pieces were very limited and expensive. Isadora opened her shop in 1975 and designed pieces through the 80’s. (Her shop is long closed.) She always wanted to give her designs a certain exclusive, limited production so that her clientele had the feeling that they were wearing a rare jewelry piece. This is an unforgettable necklace, highly collectible and her pieces are climbing. I have been contacted by an author who is planning a book on Isadora jewelry. The effect of a book on any designer always sends the prices skyrocketing. I search constantly for a few affordable pieces that I feel convey the best of her work.

Condition: Excellent.
Size: Total length 18 1/2". Tiger 3 1/4” long, cluster of foliage 2” by 1 3/4", perfume container 2 1/2" long.

SUNRISE / SUNFLOWER ( Vintage Bakelite Jewelry Carved Bangle Bracelet ): Vintage Bakelite collectors love these deep, heavily hand carved patterned bangles. (c. 1930-40) I can’t decide if it’s a sunrise or a sunflower design. Call it what you wish – this is the real thing. Imagine the master craftsman who held this round bangle against the cutting wheel to produce this complex design. The color is almost a light butterscotch or, if you prefer, a deep creamed corn. From my personal collection, I have always loved the way this Vintage Bakelite Bracelet made any day sunny and brighter. Match it up with black, brown, green, rootbeer – or for a very “today” look – try it with burgundy. You can add plain colored bangles on either side and this carved beauty will take the spotlight even more. If you are a serious collector this bangle will instantly express your fashion creativity and enthusiasm to own the very best of Vintage Bakelite.

Condition: Excellent.
Size: Just over 1” wide, 1/4' deep, 2 1/2” inner opening.

JAZZ AGE MAN IN UNIFORM ( Vintage French Bakelite Jewelry Pin ): This whimsical Vintage French Bakelite Black Bellhop pin is both fun and sophisticated. (c. 1930-40) Made of Galalith (French Bakelite), one of the earliest plastics, it looks and feels like Bakelite but has a milk base. A popular 1930’s figural subject, this bellhop is jointed at his shoulders and at his waist. He is lightly carved, has ten original rhinestone “buttons” and silver metal stripes inlaid down his pant’s legs. (The newer ones have a painted silver stripe.) He is wearing a black cap tilted smartly forward, exposing one painted eye and red lips. There is a trombone catch pin closure on the back. This bellhop pin has proven to be an enduring classic French Bakelite design. He is a light hearted, but commanding figure that is guaranteed to draw attention.

Condition: Excellent.
Size: 5” tall, 2 1/2' wide.

JOSEPHINE BAKER – PARISIAN SENSATION ( Vintage Bakelite Jewelry Josephine Baker Necklace & Earrings Set ): Simply fabulous! Sure to get noticed, this supremely collectible Vintage Bakelite necklace and matching earrings set depicts the American entertainer, Josephine Baker, who went to Paris in the 1920’s and wowed the French with her exotic looks and sensational performance style. She stayed and became a beloved figure not only for her cabaret shows, but later she rescued many French orphans during WWII. In probably her most famous act, she wore only a skirt of bananas – and that is how she is depicted in this necklace purchased in Paris. Her Bakelite figure hangs from a butterscotch, rootbeer and black beaded necklace. The open clip back earrings are butterscotch with black beads. The entire necklace and earrings are all semichrome tested Bakelite, except for the linked on, hand painted celluloid bananas. Her facial features are hand painted also and the body is fully articulated. The closure is a spring ring or you can put it over your head. Baker was an iconic figure to the French – 20,000 people attended her funeral. Her name has become synonymous with Art Deco.

Condition: Excellent.
Size: Beaded necklace 28” long (it has been shortened on the neck photos), the lady hangs down another 6”. Earrings 3” long.

SLEEK, SASSY LADY ( Judith Evans Jewelry Resin Bakelite-Look Pin ) I am offering this fabulous retro-look pin from my private collection. Sleek and sassy, this exotic lady won’t be ignored. Her 20’s hair look is so stylish. Made from a resin, it is designed by Judith Evans. I have had this pin for at least 12 years. Judith Evans pieces are bright and have the look and feel of Bakelite – but it will never change colors! I mix my Evans pieces with Vintage Bakelite all the time. This large, thick pin has a safety clasp closure on the back. At this price this lady will never make you sing the blues!

DOMINOS AND DOTS ( Vintage Shultz Bakelite Jewelry Necklace & Earrings ): One of the delights of Bakelite jewelry is the pure fun of the designs. Bakelite artists, Ron and Ester Shultz, have fashioned this whimsical necklace and earring set from Vintage Bakelite dominos and rich red disks. Seven miniature dominos and six marbleized red “dots” dangle playfully from a really pretty black double linked celluloid chain. The matching pierced earrings are accented with a red Bakelite bead. The set is light weight and signed “Shultz” on the bottom of the dominos. The necklace fastens with a huge spring ring catch. Sure to be a winner!

Condition: Excellent.
Size: Chain is 27” long. Individual dominos are 1 1/8” long, 5/8” wide. Earrings hang 2” from top of the red bead

END-0F-DAY SWIRLS ( Vintage Bakelite Jewelry Perfume Bottle Pin ): This opulently hand carved Vintage Bakelite perfume bottle is a highly coveted collector’s item. (c. 1930-40) These “end-of-day” pieces can result in some sumptuous color combinations. At the end of the working day, the left over colors of Bakelite were poured and swirled together, giving the resulting tube a variegated appearance. This pin is a mix of brown and green shades. The heavy and deep carving features a large flower with leaves in the center of the bottle and the bar at the top features another floral blossom in the center of a bow. A gold colored metal chain suspends the bottle and a fine metal chain secures the domed stopper. (It is removable.) The back of the bottle is smooth and the bar at the top has a safety clasp heat set closure. This is a “book piece” featured in many of the Bakelite collector’s books - a luscious Vintage Bakelite scent bottle that is a real treasure. You will love it and wear it forever.

Condition: Excellent.
Size: 3 1/2” long, 1 1/2” wide, bottle is 5/8” deep.

SWINGIN’ ON THE MOON ( French Bakelite Jewelry Pin ): Whimsical and charming, this French Bakelite Pin shows the figure of Pierrot literally swinging from the moon. Made of Galalith, one of the oldest plastics used, it looks and feels like Vintage Bakelite. Galalith has a milk base and is often referred to as “French Bakelite”. The clown, Pierrot, comes from French Pantomime and was popularized by fashion legend, Elsa Schiaparelli, in the 1930’s. The face in the moon and all of the details of Pierrot are hand painted. This stylish clown actually swings freely from the moon on thin metal rhinestone pavéd bars. Perfectly delightful and one of my favorite pieces. Heat set pin back with a safety clasp.

Condition: Excellent.
Size: 4” long, 1 3/8” wide. Pierrot figure is 2 1/8” long. Moon is 1 3/8” in diameter & 3/8” thick.

BRAVO TO FRENCH HANDS ( French Bakelite Jewelry Pin ): These beautifully manicured hands are made of Galalith, known as French Bakelite. French Bakelite has the look and feel of Bakelite, but does not test as American Bakelite because one of its ingredients is skimmed milk. Each vintage design "drama queen" hand has a "V" shaped ring decorated with 3 rhinestones. A large colored stone flanked by rhinestones forms a fancy cuff bracelet. The top hand has a purple colored stone in the center of the bracelet, the second a blue stone, the third a pink stone and the forth and final hand has a red stone. Each hand has hand painted red polished nails. The pin backs are heat set and each has a safety clasp closure. Add one of these conversation pieces to your collection now. Two are even more fun!

Condition: Excellent.
Size: 2 1/2" long, 7/8" wide, 3/8” deep.

TASTY GREEN APPLE JUICE ( Vintage Bakelite Reverse Carved Bangle Bracelet ): I have held onto this Vintage Bakelite Bangle for a long time and enjoyed wearing it mixed with cream corn or brown bangles. Green Apple Juice is a rare color; plus this bangle is deeply reverse carved. The carving is embellished with green hand painting from the back, producing a two color effect. (c. 1940) The design has 3 large stylized flowers that are linked with curved vines and leaves. Colorful and impressive in depth and carving, this reverse carved Vintage Bakelite Bracelet would be a great addition to any collector’s stack. I see bangles like this go for high prices at auctions.

Condition: Very Good. There is a light scuff mark near one edge, not seen except on close inspection. The usual light scratches appear – they are vintage, too! The price reflects the light scuff.
Size: 1” wide, 3/8” deep, 2 1/2” inner opening.

THE ALLURE OF PERSIA ( Vintage Bakelite Jewelry Scimitar Brooch / Pin ): Visually striking, this Vintage Bakelite Scimitar (c. 1940) brings to mind the “Tales of the Arabian Nights”. This fearsome weapon evokes the exotic spirit of desert brigands and a green oasis. An example of the Bakelite “Persian” design series, this brooch is “a book piece” seen in many of the Bakelite books. Mysterious and seductive, this pin is quite grand in scale. The blade is a deep marbleized green and the handle is opaque black with hand carved black accents. The hilt of this “killer” brooch is embellished with brass studs and rosettes. There are two free swinging chains that add additional menace to the look of the curved blade scimitar. The one piece riveted pin back has a safety clasp. Prepare to be noticed when you wear this exotic and unforgettable Vintage Bakelite Treasure. Think of the tales you can tell!

Condition: Excellent. This pin is designed to be worn at a slight angle to make sure the chains hang correctly.
Size: 4” long, 1 ½” at wide part. Hilt is ¼” deep.

BYE, BYE BIRDIE ( Vintage Bakelite Jewelry Bird Pin / Brooch ): Here is a tested Vintage Bakelite deeply carved Bird Brooch that is a real Beauty! (c. 1940) The color is between a tasty butterscotch and a light caramel. The patina of time has made the carving stand out, accenting the dynamite detail. Resting on a leafy branch, this large feathered bird appears ready to take flight at a moments notice. His inset white & black eye adds a delightful touch of whimsy to the brooch. This Bakelite Bird has all of the bells & whistles desired in a Vintage Bakelite hand carved bracelet. Its size & color create a striking visual effect when worn on most colors. Picture this pin on black, brown, green or blue. The original pinback has a safety clasp closure. CONNOISSEURS PASSION ( Vintage Bakelite Jewelry Bangle Pair ): Bakelite connoisseurs have a passion for rich and luscious colors. These two Vintage Bakelite bangles are heavily carved in a running leaf pattern. (c. 1940) The deep carving and thick walls enhance the colors and increase their value. The top domed bangle is a color I will describe as a deep rust/orange (not a bright orange). The bottom bangle is a delicious milk chocolate that enhances the rust shade of the other bangle. An extremely pleasing combination, these two beauties look terrific as a pair. Toss in a butterscotch or a green and create a totally different look. I like to by my vintage bangles in pairs or sets because they are instantly wearable and you are not stuck with singles that never seem to look right with anything. Wear this striking pair and you will instantly express your creativity and enthusiasm for the best of Vintage Bakelite. Sold as a set only.

Condition: Excellent. A few light scratches from wear. They are vintage, too! The brown bangle has a light scuff and a tiny indentation on the inside edge (see photo). They are priced to reflect this minor imperfection.
