PIERROT THE SAD CLOWN (Bakelite, Plastic Bracelet): This wonderful deep plum colored bangle features the face of the crying clown, Pierrot. Made of Galalith, one of the oldest plastics used, it looks and feels like Bakelite. Galalith has a milk base and is often referred to a "French Bakelite". The white faced clown, Pierrot, comes from French Pantomime and is often represented with a tear on his cheek. The carved sections of the bangle reveal a lighter shade of plum for the clown’s ruff and buttons. Five sparkling rhinestones are set in star-like carved designs. The fashion legend, Elsa Schiaparelli, popularized the Pierrot figure in 1938 and some of her Bakelite Bangles can still be found. Elegant and artistic, this bangle is a winner! Condition: Excellent. Size: 1" wide, 1/4" domed thickness, 2 5/8" inner opening.
