JET LACE & LADY ( Victorian Shell & Jet Cameo Brooch ): This is a high impact Victorian Jet & Cameo Brooch. The Jet surrounding the shell portrait of a lady is 3 layers high and the Cameo itself forms the forth domed center piece. The outside edge, beautifully carved of Jet, gives the piece a lacy, feminine quality. This Cameo could indicate half - mourning or simply an ornamental, decorative brooch. It is very large but light weight due to the Jet. (Jet, commonly used in the 19th century, is a type of fossilized coal.) Pin back has an unusual style C clasp that is very sturdy. Condition: Excellent. A few scratches on the back. 2 1/2" high, 1 7/8" wide, 5/8" deep.
