SHAKESPEAREAN DRAMA ( Victorian Shell Cameo Brooch ): This huge dramatic Victorian Shell Cameo carving of Shakespeare is certainly the work of a master carver. The refinement of the hair and facial features, the wonderful detail of the clothing (even tiny buttons) insure that this is a museum quality piece. The fabulous double-layered pinchbeck frame lifts the cameo high for a 3-dimensional effect. It retains its original pin back and C clasp. There is also a small loop at the top for a fine chain or gold neck wire. It does not appear to be the remains of a safety chain. Don’t buy it. I want to keep it! Condition: Excellent. A few striations to left of head, but not visible. 3 1/8" high, 2 1/2" wide, over 1/2" deep.
