TEARS OF PEARL (Victorian Mourning Brooch): This is an elegant piece of black enamel mourning jewelry. It features 32 pearls (representing tears) around the center glass oval containing woven dark hair. Finely worked wide rose gold scrolling around the border. It is very thick and dimensional. The back is engraved "J. C." and has a C clasped pin as well as a ring at the top. The piece can be worn either as a brooch or a pendant. I suspect the ring was attached to a safety chain. Condition: Very fine, one tiny ding in the glass. 2" wide, 1 1/2" high.
