PUG ARTISTRY ( Vienna Bronze Pug Dog ): We all know pugs have many talents to amuse, but I can’t get ours to hold a brush, much less paint. The Austrians started giving their wonderful bronze pugs human talents in the early 20th Century and I have an entire shelf of them to amuse me. This pug artist is painting a European palace and its gardens – and why not since that is where many European pugs lived! I’m pretty sure he is painting Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, but I’d be happy to hear from you if that is incorrect. You can see he is very proud of his work. The back of the painting bears the hallmark “FB” within a circle, the bottom of which is a “W” – standing for Franz Bermann of Wein (Vienna). Condition: Excellent. Size: 1 7/8” high, 1 3/4” wide, 1 5/6” deep.
