Pug Figurines: PB092

TAKING A BREAK ( Vintage Vienna Bronze Pug Dog ): These two pug guys are either taking a break from work – or just plain loafing. Pugs are good at that. You can see they are playing cards while one smokes a cigar and the other has a bottle of milk (or wine). This is a vintage creation from the early to mid 1900’s. You can tell by the fine detail of the molding on such areas as the pug’s coats. Also the newer pieces are painted with brighter acrylic paint and, finally, these bear the distinctive jug shaped hallmark of Vienna’s finest Vienna Bronze artist - Franz Bergmann. His first small bronze foundry was opened in Vienna in 1860. His work was continued into the 20th Century by his son, Xaver Bergmann. Many of their 20th Century pieces are based on the designs of Franz. Also on the base is the word “AUSTRIA”. Both are found on the bottom of the saw horse, as well as inside the large box. A wonderful whimsical addition to your collection. Condition: Excellent. Size: 3 1/2” wide, 2 1/2” high, 2 1/4” deep. The pugs are 1 1/2” high.
