NOTHING LIKE A GOOD CIGAR & A GOOD PUG ( Victorian Pug Cigar Holder ): This is a beautifully carved and well loved and used Cigar Holder, with an Amber mouth piece. I would guess it is late 19th Century and carved from Meerschaum, but I think the deep red-brown color must be from painting or staining. It seems too dark a color to just be the patina of time. However, it is very well used. You can tell from looking at, and smelling, the holder end. What is really special about this piece is the wonderfully detailed carving of the pugs - the face & muzzle, the fine legs, actual ribs and the rug the are perched upon. Each has a small brass tag hanging from his collar and the center pug has on an actual tiny red collar. Amazingly, these little fellows have inset eyes (? glass). Unfortunately, both are missing from the pug on the right and the left is missing from the center pug. I also think part of the right ear is missing from the center pug and left ear from the pug on the right. I couldn’t see any of that until I blew up the photos. Condition: Fair - see details above. Size: 3 3/4" long, diameter of mouth 11/16", height of pugs & pipe 1 1/8", height of pugs 1/2" to 3/4".
