RENAISSANCE PUG ( Costumed Pug Dog Puppet / Doll ): We all know how intelligent (if sometimes hard-headed) and well-bred our pugs of today are, but who knew how prominent they were in Renaissance times? In reality this is a modern pug puppet or doll dressed in his finest Renaissance apparel. Starting from head to toe – he sports a hat made of green/brown changeable taffeta with a large golden bow at the back. He is wearing a brown velvet doublet, matching wide belt with golden buckle, maroon and gold satin sleeves and gold lace down the front opening. He has a large pale green ribbon tie at his neck. His knee length “slash” trousers are made of the same green/brown changeable taffeta as his hat. He has floral embroidered off-white stockings covering his legs and, finally, two color leather 3 buttoned boots. His moving parts include his ability to turn his head from side to side, lift his arms (in order to give the “royal wave”) and very flexible hips and knees (see details of knee joints). You can place him among the larger pugs in your collection or position him cleverly on a shelf or bookcase nook. I had him posed on top of some books in our bookcase.
Condition: Excellent. He has been in my personal collection for several years,
but he is like new.
Size: Total height 22”. Head 3 ½” in all directions. Arms 7” long, legs 10 ¼” long.
Trunk 8” long, 3” wide, 4” deep (a small pot belly).
