HOW CAN YOU BE SO CRUEL TO US?: "You’re leaving us and we’ll be Orphans!" Fat chance! These pampered pugs with gold bells on their collars and a stuffed chair won’t ever be left as orphans, but those of you with dogs are very familiar with the guilty feeling that look causes you every day when you leave your babies at home. Our pugs give it to us regularly - particularly when we get out a suitcase. This is a Vintage Porcelain Fairing Piece. They were inexpensive items made to give as prizes at Fairs and now have become very collectable. Though they were mainly given at English Fairs, most were made in Germany because they made better ones for a lower price. Probably the most famous of the German Porcelain Factories that made Fairing pieces was Conta & Boehme. The ones they made from 1850 - 1880 were of relatively high quality. They made the original of "The Orphans" which I have seen. After 1880 other German companies started copying Conta & Boehme Fairing pieces and C & B started making them of much lower quality with brighter colors. This one has "1887" imprinted on the base along with the shape of the C & B shield, but I don’t want to swear they made it. Condition: Very good. There is a scratch in the black paint that can be seen on the top of the chair back. 3 3/4" high, 3 3/8" wide, 2" deep.
