PUG & SPITZ BISQUE BUDDIES ( Victorian Bisque Porcelain Pug Dog ): I’m not sure why Pug Dogs and Spitz Dogs were put together by the Victorians, but this is the 4th such pairing I’ve seen. Even more unusual is the size variance. In reality, Spitz’s are larger than Pugs. In 2 I’ve seen the Spitz was the larger dog, but in the other 2, including this one, the Pug is larger! Of course, in the eyes of those of us who are "Pug Nuts" - Pugs are larger than any other breed! Whatever the reason, this is a charming pairing of charming dogs. It has much more detail in the molding than most bisque dogs, has them seated on a mound of ground covered with grass, the entire piece is nicely decorated and, an unusual feature, the Spitz’s ruff and head are lightly glazed, while the Pug has the usual bisque surface. Condition: Excellent. Minimal wear to paint on pug’s head and partial thickness firing crack shown in base. Does not show on surface. I’m not sure if what looks like a "D" impressed in the base is a trademark or not. Size: 4 1/2" high, 3 1/2" wide, 2 1/8" deep.
