PUG DECLARATION OF EQUALITY ( Eve Pearce Porcelain Pug Dog ): “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” We are all familiar with these inspiring words of Thomas Jefferson, but how many of you know of the Pug Declaration of Equality – “…truths to be self evident, that all pugs are created equal…”? These words were inscribed on a porcelain scroll by Thomas Jefferson Pug in this wonderful and patriotic Eve Pearce creation. I think it is particularly gracious for a citizen of the United Kingdom to create this pug paraphrasing a document that was key to the loss of one of the U.K.’s prize colonies – the U.S.A. To the best of my knowledge, this artistry was created only for you – the pug collector lucky enough to add this piece to your collection. One has to appreciate the delicacy of the scroll, along with the feather quill, ink pot, delicate clumps of grass and, of course, the precious pug. I say “Three Cheers for Eve Pearce”. Eve’s pugs, made from hard paste porcelain, are not molded, but modeled by hand. The bottom is covered with felt to prevent scratching. Condition: Excellent. Size: 2 ¾” high, 5 ¼” long, 4 ¼” wide.
