VICTORIAN PUG SAVED FROM PAIN BY THE QUEEN: I have always admired Queen Victoria, but what endeared her most to me was her decree banning the cropping of pug’s ears due to the pain it caused. Of course, she owned pugs and felt a special bond with them (at least until those silly King Charles Spaniels came along). This porcelain pug shows a late Victorian physique. He is not as compact as ours of today, but his legs and muzzle are shorter and he has a stockier build (cobby) than the early Meissen and Dresden Pugs. And, of course, his ears are not cropped. He is German - made of good quality porcelain and nicely molded. Condition: Really excellent for his age. No chips, cracks or broken legs or tails. The gold is partly worn off his blue collar’s pendant. 4 1/2" high, 5 1/2" long.
