Victorian & Ivory Jewelry: IV015

SPRING CAPTURED IN IVORY: This Lilly-of-the-Valley Ivory Brooch is an exquisite example of the art of Victorian carving. Captured with life-like details, every little bell shaped flower and leaf bespeak the hand of a master carver. The language of flowers reached its peak during the reign of Queen Victorian (1837 - 1901) when flowers became a form of communication between lovers and friends. This brooch of Lilies-of-the-Valley conveys the message "return to happiness" and "you have made my life complete". Sometimes referred to as "the tears of the Virgin Mary", these delicate blossoms are one of the early signs that spring has returned once again. In my personal collection for years, this is a miniature ivory work of art. You will treasure it as I have. The original C clasp pin back is still in place. Condition: Excellent. The tips of the stems extended a bit longer at one time, but this is the condition I bought it in and have never noticed because it looks like the leaves are springing right out of the ground. Size: 2 5/8" high, 1 3/4" wide, 3/8" deep.
