SECRET GARDEN ( Edwardian Carved Ivory Jewelry Pendant ): This beautifully hand carved Ivory Pendant, which dates from the 1910’s or 1920’s, brings to mind the classic children’s story, The Secret Garden, about a young Victorian orphan girl who finds a hidden and abandoned garden and brings it back to life. The whole story is there in the tenderness of the girl’s pose and gentleness and love in her caress of the full blown roses all around her. Flawless and intricate carving and piercing indicate the highest quality workmanship in every detail. Although it may be late Victorian, this pendant exhibits the Edwardian style of female and floral fantasy subject matter and the curves of Art Nouveau. It currently hangs from an Ivory bale on a gold filled chain, but it would look equally lovely on a ribbon or cord. Condition: Excellent. I do not think that the chain is original. Size: 2 1/2" high, 1 3/4" wide, 1/8 thickness. The chain is 29" long.
