RICH IVORY AND SCRIMSHAW LOCKET ( Victorian Ivory Jewelry Locket ): Lockets have always been one of the most popular forms of jewelry. Perhaps because they have the potential to hold secrets inside. This Victorian Ivory Locket with scrimshaw design (c. 1880-90) came from a very important Beverly Hills estate. The hand carved Ivory is full of rich striations and has a mellow, almost buttermilk, patina. The Victorian scrimshaw work is crisp, ornate and clearly made for an affluent patron. The carved bale is perfection and the clasp "clicks" firmly and securely in place. The inside retains one of its original photo liners. This impressive piece of history would be equally at home with denim or lace. A classic look that can be dressed up or down. Condition: Excellent. No chips or cracks. Size: Total locket length 2 7/8", locket alone 2" high, 1 1/2" wide, almost 1/4" thick.
