Victorian Jewelry: IV027

IVORY ROSES ROUND YOUR WRIST ( Victorian Jewelry Ivory Bracelet ): Roses never lose their romantic feminine appeal. I was fortunate to find this delicate Victorian Carved Ivory bracelet on a recent buying trip. Victorian Romanticism found its perfect expression in carved ivory floral motifs. The “language of flowers” captured the fashionable Victorian’s imagination and an abundance of blossoms and foliage provided an ample expression of their interest in the elaborate symbolism of nature. A single rose carries the sentiment, I love you. This gorgeous ivory bracelet (c. 1850-70) is made of 11 carved ivory rose plaques threaded on elastic cords. (Elastic was invented in 1830 and was an immediate success.) The center rose, with its foliage and rose bud, is the largest and the other roses are graduated in size as the bracelet winds around your wrist. It will fit a medium size wrist. The roses have a beautiful patina and the bracelet is very comfortable to wear. Ivory is so flattering to all skin tones and this bracelet, with its multitude of blossoms is a small masterpiece of the carver’s art. Condition: Excellent. No chips. Elastic is firm. I do not know if it is original. Size: 7 1/2” inner dimension. Center rose 1 1/2” long 1 3/8” wide. Rose plaques taper to 5/8” at back. It will fit a medium size wrist.
