FROM CRADLE TO GRAVE ( Victorian Jewelry Ivory Cross ): One of the marvels of antique jewelry is the layers and symbols incorporated in each piece. This superior Victorian Ivory Cross, with a hand carved cherub head at its center, was often used as a “cradle” cross. (c. 1879-90) Hung above a baby’s cradle it provided protection against evil and blessings from above. A charming idea that could be used today. The little cherub has tiny curls on his head and perfect feathered wings. This cross is solid rounded ivory, not hollow or flat. Outstanding in its entirety, this cross is the perfect size to wear on a chain. The soft radiance and patina of old Ivory can not be matched. I wear mine on 2 strands of Victorian Ivory beads and it always brings me compliments. Mix Ivory and Jet and you could be stepping out of today’s fashion magazine. Condition: Excellent. No chips. Original ring. Size: 4” high, 2” wide, cross is 1/2” deep.
