SCOTTISH THISTLE BLOOMS IN IVORY ( Victorian Jewelry Ivory Thistle Brooch ): Queen Victoria’s love affair with Scotland was well known. The cultural climate in Victorian England was heightened by an awakening interest in naturalism and a renewed fascination with medieval romanticism. Picturesque Scotland became the embodiment of both and had a huge impact on fashion throughout the Victorian Era. It is rare, however, to see the symbol of Scotland – the thistle – rendered in an Ivory Brooch (c.1860 probably French). Beautifully hand carved, these thistle blossoms have a warm soft patina. Well acquainted with the Tudor Rose, the Scottish Thistle appears regal and exotic. There is a C clasp on the back and the original extended Victorian pin back. Bold enough to blend with casual wear, but elegant enough to look superb on black velvet, this Antique Ivory Brooch is a timeless treasure. Condition: Excellent. No chips or breaks. Size: 2 1/4” high, 1 1/2” wide, 1/2” deep.
