CHERRY PICKING CHARMER ( Victorian Jewelry Ivory Portrait Miniature Pendant ): I could not resist this charming Victorian Ivory Portrait Miniature Pendant. (c. 1870-1890) Set against a background of sky blue, shades of green, gold, peach and pink have been delicately combined with tones of sable, flesh and white to render the details of this young girl and her basket full of cherries. Executed in watercolor on ivory, the child is sweet and innocent with her big blue eyes, curling sable hair and white cotton puffed sleeve dress. Posed to show us a stem of cherries from her basket, she remains frozen in time – forever young. This Antique Portrait Miniature is delightfully set into an ivory frame with a hand carved beaded edge and celluloid cover. (Invented in 1868) Signed “S. Russell” on the edge near the basket. This piece was clearly intended to be worn as a pendant with its dainty jeweler tested 10KT rose gold bale. The frame surrounding the painting is gold plated. It can be worn on a chain or silk cord or even a fine neck wire. Be prepared – heads will turn when you wear this miniature. By using ivory for the setting, it is guaranteed to go with everything! Charming, but sophisticated enough for a lady who knows what she likes. Condition: Excellent. Colors are bright. Ivory graining with nice patina visible. Size: 2 ½” in diameter, painting is 1 ¾” in diameter, just over ¼” deep.
