MOSS AGATE MARVEL ( Victorian Scottish Jewelry Brooch ): This is certainly the most gorgeous piece of Moss Agate that I have ever seen, almost transparent with deep green dendritic inclusions evenly distributed throughout the round, slightly domed piece. Most impressively, this late Victorian brooch (c. 1880 - 1890) is carved both front and back to create the illusion of overlapping oval discs around a central opening. The carved agate piece is set in a slender silver rim with four engraved silver "paws" holding the disc in the setting. (Similar to prong set.) In the center of the brooch is an engraved scalloped silver setting holding a claw set faceted Scottish cairngorm. The pin back retains its original C clasp fastening and a small ring for a safety chain. Condition: Excellent. Size: 2" in diameter, 1/2" thick to top of cairngorm.
