RADIANT MADONNA ( Victorian Ivory Jewelry Portrait Miniature Pin / Pendant ): The quality of the painting in this portrait miniature of the Madonna is just so striking. Vivid blues, reds and luminous flesh tones bring this hand painted on Ivory portrait to life. The meticulous attention paid to the details of the clothing she is wearing and the metallic gold rays emanating from her head are really quite extraordinary. The figure is shown against a blue sky with the landscape stretching out far behind her. (This is not a transfer print.) Bezel set in an 800 Silver (European or Continental Designation) wire worked frame with 10 small bezel set coral beads. Exotic and exquisite! My guess is that this is an Italian piece done around 1920. The pinback has a safety clasp and is marked "800". The portrait is signed on the right hand edge, but I can only read "Col...e". Condition: Excellent. Celluloid cover in place. Size: 2" in diameter.
