stunning is the only way to describe this outstanding Victorian Whitby
Jet Brooch. (c. 1850) Hand carved from the very finest jet – Whitby
– this figural brooch of thistle blossoms and leaves is a rare find.
Most of the jet pieces were geometric in shape or token seaside holiday
souvenirs. Victorian fashion was predominantly class-led, with Queen
Victoria, herself, encouraging the growth of both the jet industry and
Scottish inspired themes. This is a huge, elegant example of the allure
of Jet – black, flashing and alive. There is a C clasp on the back.
Condition: Excellent. Size: 3 1/2” high, 1 3/4” wide, 3/8” deep.
